SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 23) — Tony Bennett nailed it, didn’t he?
My love waits there in San Francisco. Above the blue and windy sea.
The old crooner must have had a day like Monday in mind when he recorded his legendary song in January 1962. You could wait eons before enjoying such extraordinary weather at this time of year. It was actually hot at Fisherman’s Wharf — no wind; sunny and 73 Fahrenheit late in the afternoon. Absolutely perfect conditions for an hour–long cruise on San Francisco Bay and under the famed Golden Gate Bridge.
I had my son, Shane, and my trusty NIKON with me.
SPECTACULAR VIEW FROM WEST SIDE OF THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.
AMONG THE TRUE SYMBOLS OF SAN FRANCISCO IS THE 853–FOOT (43 STORY) TRANSAMERICA PYRAMID ON MONTGOMERY ST. IN THE CITY’S FINANCIAL DISTRICT. OPENED IN THE SUMMER OF 1972, IT IS THE TALLEST SKYSCRAPER IN SAN FRANCISCO.
